COVID-19 Training Competency

Completed Hand Hygiene Training

1. Advise watch slide deck 1 *
2. Advise handwashing physically removes the virus *
3. Advise gelling physically kills the virus *
4. Advise hand gel should not be used on dirty hands *
5. Advise commonly missed areas – fingernails, wrists etc *
6. Advise not possible to wash hands properly if wearing watches, rings with stones or jewellery – strongly advise to remove *
7. Advise to either do handwashing or gelling – no need to do both *

Donning PPE

1. Advise staff to prepare themselves – well hydrated, gather all equipment, long hair tied back *
2. Show staff PPE: disposable apron, fluid-resistant face mask, eye protection and gloves *
3. Advise if need PPE training for aerosol generating procedures to contact CCG Infection control team to arrange *
4. Advise PPE should be put on before entering the service user’s home *
5. Perform Hand Hygiene *
6. Don apron – Open fully to ensure as much coverage as possible *
7. Tie waist ties behind back *
8. Don Mask – Demonstrate front/back top/bottom *
9. Tie bottom strap first or use a buddy *
10. Tie top strap re-adjust bottom strap if required *
11. Press firmly along nose piece *
12. Ensure mask is pulled right under chin *
13. Don goggles or face visor – Place over face and eyes; adjust to fit *
14. Advise if entirely plastic can be cleaned. If foam/elastic must be single use *
15. Don gloves – Ensure correct fit *

Doffing PPE

16. Advise this should be done whilst still in service user’s home *
17. Remove gloves – Grasp outside of glove with opposite gloved hand, peel off. *
18. Hold removed glove in gloved hand *
19. Slide fingers of un-gloved hand under remaining glove at wrist *
20. Peel glove off over first glove *
21. Discard in bin. Gel hands. *
22. Remove apron – Break neck ties and lower down *
23. Break waist straps behind back *
24. Peel the apron forward, only touching the inside of the apron *
25. Fold or roll into bundle and discard into bin. Gel hands *
26. if eye protection is single use remove now, otherwise leave the service user’s home *
27. Remove eye-protection – Handle by head band or ear pieces – do not touch the front *
28. Keeping head up, close eyes and gently lift away from face. *
29. Place on wipe-able surface. Gel hands *
30. Remove mask – If wearing glasses, remove and place on wipe-able surface. Fully un-tie bottom strap *
31. Maintaining tension untie top strap. *
32. Keeping head up, close eyes and gently lift away from face and discard *
33. Wash hands *
34. Clean eye protection and glasses with wipe. *
35. Wipe down surface with green wipe *

36. Recognises own scope *
37. Aware not to amend or add to the training *
38. Aware to refer to local CCG Infection Control Team if further advice required *
